Half of Super Bowl Fans Will Bet According to New Study
The American Gaming Association predicted last week that $1.76 billion would be bet on Super Bowl LX by Americans. According to a Paysafe survey conducted last week, 51% of fans in states in the United States and Ontario, where sports betting is legal, said they would place an online wager on the big game.
The desire of Super Bowl viewers in California, Texas, and Canada's Alberta province—all of which do not have regulated sports betting—to lawfully wager on next Super Bowls was another intriguing finding from the study, All the Ways Players Pay: Super Bowl.
It is anticipated that the new, regulated, open gaming industry in Alberta will launch sometime this spring or summer.
Super Bowl Betting: $1.76 billion
When their markets become legal, 52% of fans in those U.S. states and Alberta are eager to wager on the big game, according to the report.
“Super Bowl LX is expected to generate a record $1.71 billion in legal wagers from the U.S. market alone, with an unprecedented betting volume also likely in Canada’s Ontario,” said Zak Cutler, President of Global Gaming at Paysafe, the payments platform provider.
“The game represents a massive growth opportunity for North American online sportsbooks, and our research indicates that operators that are laser-focused on their cashiers and streamlining the payment experience will give themselves an edge in a highly competitive market.”
27% Want to Bet More Than Normal
A poll was conducted among fans in the regulated markets of Florida, Massachusetts, New Jersey, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Ontario. According to the research, 27% of them anticipate betting more than normal, and 59% of them will place bets on game day.
Because it was a Paysafe study, they had to address the payment platform aspect; brand strength (43%) and efficient payouts (37%) were the most important factors for consumers selecting an online sportsbook. People prioritized cashing out a wager easily over all other non-payment factors, including favorable odds (30%). Other payment considerations that play a significant role in the selection of sportsbooks by fans in regulated markets include quick deposits (prioritized by 25%) and a variety of payment options (24%).
Super Bowl Predictions
This Sunday at 6:30 p.m. EST, the New England Patriots and Seattle Seahawks square off in Super Bowl LX. The Seahawks are currently the favorites at DraftKings, with a Moneyline of -230 and the Patriots at +190. The Patriots are +4.5 (-105), the Seahawks are -4.5 (-115), and the O/U is 45.5.
A representative for theScore Bet claims that 64.8% of bets, or 72.2% of handle, are on the Seahawks (-4.5, opened -3.5), 58.1% of bets, or 59.3% of handle, are on the Seahawks ML (-230), and 59.6% of bets, or 55.3% of handle, are on the Over (45.5, opened 46.5).
